Prior to that, Abidi studied initially in Lahore and then at the Art Institute of Chicago where she started to establish her practice in moving image. Abidi’s work generally integrates imaginary as well as documentary components, frequently grounded in the experience of city living. Abidi deftly skewers pomposities and dissects the absurdities of institutional ceremonials. Privacy hangs over the movie like a 2nd character; the guy’s every motion and gesture speak of strangeness, of his dislocation from another life. We understand nearly absolutely nothing about him, the movie provides an insight into the guy’s interior life, reveals complicated mixes of yearning, loss, convenience and human originality.
